I went to the Berkeley Kite Festival at the Berkeley Marina with my family on Sunday. The first thing that jumped to our eyes was the man who was flying kite with a fishing rod. That really seems to me that makes sense for flying a kite. The other man using a fishing rod was flying a kite shaped as a black shark. :) It looks like a very popular style for flying kites in US.
And we saw lots of octopus kites. I was wondering if it's a pun using homonyms because "kite" is "凧" and its pronunciation is ta-ko in Japanese and its another meaning is an octopus ("蛸"). But it doesn't seem like that it's true because I couldn't find any references about that from a quick look on the internet.
We were given the free kite kit and we made it. It's really a small kite, but it could fly very well. That probably was the first experience of my kids. And I enjoyed doing that for the first time in many many years, too.
